Borstal Boy by Frank McMahon
Based on the autobiographical story of Brendan Behan and adapted for stage by Frank McMahon, Borstal Boy is a play about young Brendan Behan who travels to Liverpool with the makings of a bomb in his case, complete with dynamite. He is working for the IRA, and is a fresh faced juvenile of 17. He takes lodgings in a house and almost as soon as he sets down his case, the police arrive to arrest him. And so begins the story of a young Irish man facing into the English judicial system. He is too young to go to jail, so he ends up at a Borstal.
